Attractions

Antique Auto Museum

This antique auto museum attracts visitors from around the country and is the hub of events for the antique car rally held annually in Cairo every year.

Birdsong Nature Center

The Birdsong Nature Center was founded as a nonprofit nature preserve and education center in 1986.  The 565 acres have 12 miles of meandering nature trails well suited for casual, peaceful hiking. The variety of woodlands, wetlands, and old-field habitats support many indigenous wildlife and offers an ideal setting for observing the quiet beauty found in many remote areas of southwest Georgia.  Many events are held throughout the months.  Call the center for registration and information.

Roddenbery Library

The Library building, almost 19,000 square feet in total area, contains one of the best children’s libraries in the area, a “story garden,”, and a local history and genealogy room.  Our expansive collection gives the Roddenbery Memorial Library the reputation of having the largest number of books per capita than any library in Georgia!  Reading is important to our future and much emphasis is placed on our children’s programs. Each year the library sponsors children’s events such as a Doll’s Tea Party and a very successful summer reading program. This outstanding library has won the John Cotton Dana award for public relations twice since its founding in 1939.

Cairo Country Club

Cairo Country Club is nestled in a myriad of pines, ponds, and wildlife.  This 18 hole championship golf course is characterized by its serene fairways and rolling Bermuda greens.  Practice facilities are available daily and the putting green is lighted for extended day use. With PGA professionals on staff, instructors are available to help locals and tourists improve all parts of their game. The Club has a spacious clubhouse with a ballroom, two lounges, and a fully stocked golf shop and provides tournaments and corporate outings in their beautiful facility.

Grady County Museum and History Center

No visit to our area is complete with taking in the true heritage of our area at the Grady County Museum and History Center.

Grady Cultural Center

One block west of Broad Street, the old syrup plant provides 11,000 sq. ft of rental space for year round activities.  Representing early 20th century construction, with exposed wood ceilings, huge timbers, exposed brick walls and concrete floor the center is ideal, accomodating up to 1000 people. Recreation Parks and Ball Fields

The City of Cairo maintains 4 parks within the city limits for year round enjoyment and recreation.  Grady County operates and maintains Barber Park Recreation Department Ball Fields, tennis courts and playgrounds.

Ochlocknee River

In 1539 the Spanish Explorer Hernando Desoto explored the lush pine forests of southwest Georgia through the winding Ochlocknee River.  Fishing and canoeing are a tourist’s delight.  Several boat landings are available.

Shopping

Two shopping centers and a beautifully renovated downtown offer a variety of shopping pleasures.

Hunting Preserves

Hickory Nut Hill Hunting Preserve - 229-377-2123 - Quail hunting, private traditional lakeside cabin, bed and breakfast, trap shooting, dove and ducks in season.

Dogwood Hunting Preserve - 229-872-3672 - Quail and pheasant hunting, fishing, trap shooting.
